OMÀYA / MATERIALS & CARE

One fabric, chosen for the night.

We don't mix materials. Everything OMÀYA makes is cut from one silk — 22 momme mulberry silk, certified down to the thread. Here is what that means, how it compares with what is usually sold as silk, and how to keep it soft.

THE FABRIC

What is behind the label and why it matters at night.

“Silk” on a tag can mean almost anything. Three things decide how it behaves against your skin: the fibre it is spun from, how densely it is woven, and what it has been tested for.

  • FIBRE

    Mulberry silk

Spun by silkworms fed only on mulberry leaves, which gives one long, even filament instead of short, broken fibres. The surface stays smooth, pills less and keeps its sheen wash after wash.

  • WEIGHT

    22 momme

Momme is the weight of the weave. Under 19 silk is thin and gives at the seams; we don't go below 22 — dense enough to keep light out of the mask and to take regular washing as a pillowcase.

  • SAFETY

    STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®

Tested for harmful substances in every part that touches you — fabric, thread, elastic and label. The pillowcase silk also carries a silver-ion finish.

SILK, SATIN, COTTON

Not everything that shines is silk.

Satin is a weave, not a fibre — most satin masks and pillowcases are polyester. Here is how the three materials you will find in a bedroom compare over one night.

CARE

A little care, and it stays soft.

Silk is stronger than it looks — it just dislikes heat and harsh chemistry. Check the care label on your piece first; this is the routine we follow ourselves.

  1. Wash cold

By hand or on a silk or delicate cycle, never above 30 °C. Turn it inside out and put it in a mesh laundry bag.

  2. Use a mild detergent

A little pH-neutral liquid made for silk or wool. No bleach, enzymes or fabric softener — they strip the fibre of its sheen.

  3. Dry in the air

Press the water out in a towel instead of wringing. Dry flat or on a hanger, away from direct sun and radiators.

  4. Iron low, store dry

If it needs it, iron on the silk setting, on the reverse, while still slightly damp. Keep it folded, dry and out of the sun.

How often

Pillowcase
once a week, with the rest of your bedding
Mask
every few weeks, or sooner if you sleep in night cream

Keep silk away from

  • Tumble dryers and radiators
  • Bleach, enzymes and fabric softener
  • Wringing and twisting
  • Long hours in direct sunlight
  • Perfume and hairspray on the fabric

Feel the difference on the first night.

The same 22 momme silk in both. Start with the mask, or feel it under your cheek with the pillowcase.
